Hasselhorn & Deutsch - Schubert: Die Winterreise

Franz Schubert (1797-1828): Winter Journey D. 911 Op. 89

The German baritone Samuel Hasselhorn studied at the University of Music, Theater and Media in Hanover and at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de la Musique et Danse in Paris. Due to his engagement and talent, he is the recipient of many scholarship holders and musical prizes, such as the "Queen Elisabeth Competition" 2018 and much more. He is a participant in numerous ensembles and a welcome guest at festivals and concerts. Among his milestones are the Vienna State Opera. The baritone Samuel Hasselhorn has already released three records.

Helmut Deutsch is considered one of the best and most promising song accompanists in the world. He was born in Vienna, studied at the music academy, the conservatory and the university in his hometown. He became a professor at the age of 24. His career has taken the pianist all over the world and he makes music with international singers. Hermann Prey and Irmgard Seefried are among his most important concert partners in his career as a song accompanist. The centerpiece of his studies was the song, he was also successful for many years as a chamber musician with well-known instrumentalists and played in all important music centers around the world.

Hasselhorn & Deutsch - International Masterclass of song design

The course includes the rich treasure trove of German songs from Mozart to Hugo Wolf and Gustav Mahler. A very special focus is set on Richard Strauss, who was inspired for so many of his songs in this landscape. Young musicians should be given the oppertunity to expand and deepen their knowledge in the special art forms:

- Character and message of apoem and its setting
- The 'right' pace
- The ideal balance between vocals and piano
- The special spellings of composers
- The perfect pronounciation when singing
- Phrasing after the text
- Same and opposite articulation and dynamics in the piano vocals
- The verse song and much more
